WHAT:

The Alameda Corridor-East Construction Authority (ACE) will begin construction on the East End Ave. roadway underpass at the railroad crossing in the City of Pomona (see computer image of underpass above). East End Ave. will be lowered below a bridge built to carry trains and a separate bridge for First St. Price St. will be permanently closed in a cul-de-sac at East End Ave. The roadway underpass will include pedestrian and motorist safety improvements, walkways, and landscaping. The project will eliminate traffic delays at the train tracks and potential collisions with trains.
    

Major construction will begin January 2, 2006, when East End Ave. will be closed for approximately 18 months. The newly built Reservoir St. underpass will serve as a detour route, opening to traffic the previous week. Most construction will take place during the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Completion of construction is expected in Summer 2008.
    

Construction will require the full closure of East End Ave. between Via Pueblo and 3rd St. for approximately 18 months starting January 2, 2006. First St. immediately east and west of East End Ave. will also be closed for construction. Access to local businesses and school facilities will remain open. Detour routes around the construction area include Reservoir St. and San Antonio Ave. for north-south travel and Holt Ave. or Mission Blvd. for east-west travel (see detour map on reverse). Noise, dust and vibration will be monitored for compliance with applicable limits. Foothill Transit line 480 will be detoured to run north-south on Reservoir St.
    

Access to businesses on East End Avenue and First St. within the project area will remain open. The Village Academy High/Pueblo Elementary school facilities will remain accessible at Via Pueblo. Use Reservoir St. and San Antonio as north-south detours; Mission Blvd. and Holt Ave. as east-west detours.

    

During construction, East End Ave will be closed from Via Pueblo to 3rd Street. First Street will be closed to the east and west of East End Ave. A road on the north side of the railroad tracks will be closed at East End Ave. for the duration of construction and eventually rerouted through the school parking lot. Businesses along East End Ave. and Price St. will remain open and accessible.
