JUMP START PROJECTS
Jump-Start safety upgrade
program improvements at 39 grade crossings along the 35-mile
corridor have been completed. “Jump-Start” improvements are
designed to increase safety and reduce congestion at these grade
crossings. Construction of new medians to prevent motorists from
driving around safety gates, installation of railroad and
traffic signal measures, pedestrian safety and road restriping
improvements have been completed at all of the ACE project grade
crossings in Montebello. Construction of safety improvements at
Greenwood Avenue and Maple Avenue was completed in September
2002 and completed at Vail Avenue in October 2002.
GRADE SEPARATION NOT STARTED IN THE CITY OF MONTEBELLO
Construction is completed at the first three out of twenty ACE
grade separation projects. Construction is underway or funded at
seven more out of the twenty. These major construction projects
will depress the roadway or elevate the train tracks to
physically separate rail and vehicle traffic at the most heavily
congested rail crossings. One grade separation project is
proposed for the City of Montebello at Montebello Blvd. The
proposed grade separation is pending approval from the City of
Montebello. Upon approval, design for the project is expected to
take about 18 months. City approval would be obtained for final
design prior to beginning construction.
