Nogales Underpass Construction Scheduled to Begin in September
Updates on Construction Activities

 
WHO:
The Alameda Corridor-East Construction Authority (ACE)
WHAT:
The Alameda Corridor – East Construction Authority (ACE) has begun construction of the Nogales Street roadway underpass. This project will lower Nogales Street twenty feet and build bridges for Valley Boulevard and the Union Pacific railroad tracks. In addition, a permanent connector road will be constructed to provide access between the two newly grade separated roads.

Work will be completed in four stages. As part of this construction, temporary detour roads will be built to maintain traffic on Nogales Street and Valley Boulevard during construction.
DURATION:
Construction began in Summer 2004, with completion anticipated in Winter 2005/06. Construction will occur during normal working hours 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
WHERE:
Construction will be focused on the intersection of Nogales Street and Valley Boulevard at the railroad track in the cities of Industry and West Covina. The construction area extends from Arenth Avenue north to Valley View Avenue on Nogales and approximately 1000 feet east and west along Valley Boulevard.
WHAT TO EXPECT:

Stage 1 - (6 months*):
Beginning in August, Construction work will focus on completion of utility relocations and construction of the Nogales and Valley detour roads - that will maintain motorist and pedestrian circulation through the construction area. These temporary roads will include two lanes of travel in each direction, and a new intersection just northeast of the existing Nogales Street/Valley Boulevard intersection. During Stage 1, work will consist of grading, paving, striping and installation of street lighting and traffic signals. Periodic lane closures will be in effect while utility and roadway detour work is underway.

Stage 2 - (12 months*):
After Stage 1 work is completed, the focus of construction will shift to the Union Pacific Railroad and Valley Boulevard bridges and the reconstruction of portions of Valley Boulevard and Nogales Street.
