| PROJECT DESCRIPTION | |
The Puente Avenue Grade Separation Project would separate the roadway and the railroad tracks on Puente Avenue at Valley Boulevard in the City of Industry and unincorporated area of Los Angeles County. There are currently two project alternatives being considered: Alternative 1 would consist of a roadway underpass on Puente Avenue with bridges for Valley Boulevard and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and includes a loop connector road west of Puente Avenue and south of Valley Boulevard. Third Avenue would remain open to Puente Avenue. Alternative 2 would consist of a roadway overpass on Puente Avenue. |
|
| PROJECT STATUS | |
The project is currently in the preliminary design stage. Conceptual layout plans are expected to be completed by early 2012. Project cost is estimated at $82.8 million. |
|
| PROJECT IMPACTS | |
| The project would reduce traffic congestion by an estimated 13 vehicle-hours of delay each day due to lowered gates at the crossing which is traversed by 15 trains per day. Puente Avenue carries 24,900 vehicles per day which is projected to increase to 28,600 vehicles by 2035. The project would eliminate delays for emergency responders and crossing collisions, with five collisions recorded over the last 10 years. Emissions would be reduced and locomotive horn noise eliminated. | |
